Wicked Lovely By: Melissa Marr

wicked-lovely1Aislinn has always seen fairies.  Her grandmother had drilled the rules of this sight into her mind ever since she was young.  Do not talk to invisible fairies, do not stare at invisible fairies, and do not let them know you can see them.  These rules kept Aislinn safe all her life but what happens when the fairies themselves stop following the rules.  The Faeries come in all shapes and sizes and some can even pass for humans, they also enjoy playing tricks on the unsuspecting humans.

Seth is Aislinn’s long time friend, he lives in a converted train car made of steel that is located in a train yard, which has become Aislinn’s safe haven because fairies cannot go near steel, it hurts them. But something changes and the fairies pay more attention to Aislinn then usual, they follow her everywhere, even to the train yard.

Aislinn’s worries are intensified when two fairies approach her and speak directly to her.  She becomes even more aware of the world around her that normal people do not see.  She hears the fairies as they talk about her, the questions they ask about her being the one.  She discovers that the two fairies that seem to be paying the most attention to her are named Keenan and Donia.

Keenan is the Summer King, he is bound by his mother who is the Winter Queen.  The Winter queen bound Keenan by limiting his powers so that he cannot stop her from slowly turning the world into a frozen wasteland.  The only way Keenan can over throw his mother is if he finds the one who is meant to be is Summer Queen. It is believed that Aislinn is the one, the Summer Queen, and that belief has put her in danger.

Now that Aislinn’s feelings for Seth have developed to the point where they are more then friends, Aislinn is discovering a whole new side of everything, and when she realizes that she is meant to be the Summer Queen she does everything she can think of to find a different way, because apart from becoming a fey, she knows that being the Summer Queen would mean spending eternity with Keenan.

Melissa Marr has written a wonderful story full of magic and imagination.  This book will have you looking over your shoulder for faeries!  Even if you are not a huge fan of Fairy stories you should read this one, it will steal your heart as you fall in love with the characters in Ms. Marr’s enchanting world.  Her ability to keep readers interested is wonderful, and she keeps all of the characters, and there are many, in perspective.
